Natural Hormone Replacement Therapy

Natural hormone replacement therapy means using the hormones that are biologically identical to what the body makes. Thus, the term “bioidentical hormones.” This therapy is absolutely necessary as we age and frequently necessary in young females and males. Natural Hormone Replacement Therapy is essential to the health of both MEN and WOMEN.

“Much like the harmonious chords resulting from the dozens of instruments that comprise a symphony orchestra, the hormonal system must function in exquisite balance in order for the patient to feel, act, and look their best. All of the hormones in the body are designed to work together. If one hormone is altered, or deficient, it will consequently affect the actions of all the other hormones.”

Ron Rothenberg, M.D.

Hormone replacement or optimization with bioidentical hormones can benefit our aging process and frequently helps younger people who suffer from hormonal imbalances or deficiencies. Symptoms of deficiencies include but are not limited to lack of energy, excess body fat, low sex drive, depression, poor sleep, memory loss, cancer, heart disease, diabetes, dementia and Alzheimer’s. Men can also suffer from erectile dysfunction and prostate issues. Women of all ages can suffer from difficult periods including heavy bleeding, PMS and migraines. Women may also suffer from fibroids, endometriosis, ovarian cysts and hot flashes.

Individualized treatment. Natural Bio Health, in its Austin, Odessa, College Station and San Antonio clinics, uses only bioidentical hormones designed to ensure healthy and youthful level of hormones. As “one size does not fit all”, treatment are individualized. Since our body is a “symphony” of many interactions, we use functional medicine to address all aspects of your health including bioidentical hormone optimization, healthy eating (diet), excess body fat and body weight, exercise, your gastrointestinal tract (including the gut), and your brain.

We offer a full range of diagnostic testing as we strongly believe and practice that you should not guess as to the causes of a person’s health. We test your current bioidentical hormone levels and use follow-up tests to ensure they are working correctly. We also test cortisol levels for stress as stress detrimentally affects our health in many ways.

Determine the cause of your complaints. Our functional, natural medicine approach is based not on treating symptoms with drugs, but determining the CAUSE of your complaints and concerns. For example, if you struggle with body fat and excess body weight, is it because of your diet and exercise? Or are there other factors including thyroid deficiencies, low testosterone, estrogen dominance, that are making it tough for you to lose weight or maintain a healthy weight? Often, a deficiency in your endogenous hormones (hormones produced by the body) is a contributing cause of your weight struggles. These can be helped with bioidentical hormones.

The aging population. The neuroendocrine approach to aging rests on the proposition that a major cause of aging is the decline of our hormones. This concept is best expressed in the statement: “We age because our hormones decline, our hormones do not decline because we age.” In all four of our clinics in Austin, Odessa, San Antonio and College Station, we have found that the quality of your life is greatly affected by a decline in hormone levels as we age. Restoring hormone levels to youthful levels with bioidentical hormones ensures our vitality and independence as we age and helps prevent the many diseases associated with aging.

Perimenopause (Premenopause) and Menopause – The decline of hormones. Every day in the United States, approximately 3,500 women enter menopause. Menopause is defined as no menstrual cycle for 12 months. The lab tests FSH and LH can also tell a women if she has reached menopause. It is also a time when hormones produce only in small quantities and are sometimes absent. This is a time when women have the greatest needs for the most bioidentical hormones including estrogen. BIHT (bioidentical hormone therapy) can literally save a woman’s life and ensure her QUALITY OF LIFE in the later years of her life (postmenopause).

Menopause can be the greatest of time in that a woman no longer has to worry about an unwanted pregnancy, responsibilities of child rearing are gone (but not always), and they are still “young” and still sexually interested (or can be). Menopause is the time when a women should be able to focus time on herself. Prior to this time, women have often been busy taking care of other people. The time after menopause can last for thirty (30) years and more. It is said that middle age now begins at the age of 60. Menopause commonly occurs between the ages of 45 to 55.

However, if a woman’s hormonal symphony is out of tune, she can begin as early as fifteen years prior to menopause to have symptoms. The time just before menopause is call perimenopause or premenopause. These years can start as early as age 30. A woman may still have cycles during this time, but they may become more irregular or difficult or both. She may even have experienced a hysterectomy, had her tubes tied, or had other permanent birth control procedures. The symptoms of both perimenopause) and menopause can be similar. Biodientical hormones can help relieve these symptoms but more importantly, treat the causes of the symptoms.

Andropause. Andropause is the men’s menopause. It is sometimes referred to as “male menopause.” It is a state of lowered “androgen” (male-type) hormone levels in men, particularly testosterone (often referred to as Low-T). Common symptoms can include increased body fat, loss of muscle and strength, decreased energy, decreased stamina, decreased libido (less or loss of interest in sex), memory changes, and in some instances erectile dysfunction (“ED”).

Other symptoms may include irritability and depression and there is increasing research that low testosterone is a co-factor for Alzheimer’s disease, osteoporosis, pre-diabetes and diabetes; abnormal lipids (cholesterol), and heart disease. Testosterone treatment can help prevent many of these diseases and relieve the symptoms of andropause.
