It is known that full term pregnancy provides protection from breast cancer, in spite of the fact that hormone levels are extremely high during pregnancy. The reason is that estriol, progesterone and human chorionic gonadotropins (other protective hormones) are produced in large amounts during pregnancy.
We know that progesterone protects against breast cancer and other cancers. We also NOW know that combining estradiol and estriol into a cream provides further protection against breast cancer and other cancers by ensuring that these estrogens are metabolized into “the good estrogen,” 2-hydroxyestrone, which has been shown to be anticarcinogenic.
Estradiol, the most active and important estrogen in humans, changes into two important metabolites. 16 alpha hydroxyestrone and 2-hydroxyestrone. The former promotes the growth of breast cancer cells; the later inhibits it. In other words, 2-hydroxyestrone is beneficial estrogen. Like estriol, it is a weak estrogen. It blocks the stimulatory action of strong estrogens on ER alpha on breast cancer cells.
2-hydroxyestrone (2OHE1) is anti-estrogenic while 16 alpha-hydroxyestrone (16 alpha OHE1) is a potent estrogen. Many researchers have found the protective effect of 2-hydroxyestrone and labeled it a “good estrogen.” According to several studies, a low 2/16 ratio spells higher incidence of postmenopausal breast cancer.
The issue of the role of 2-hydroxyestrone (2-OHE1) in breast cancer has been the subject of considerable controversy as to whether it is carcinogenic or anticarcinogenic. Studies have now conclusively shown that 2-OHE1 is anticarcinogenic. In every experimental model in which 2-hydroxylation was increased, protection against tumors was achieved. Correspondingly, when 2-hydroxylation was decreased, an increase in cancer risk was observed.
A large Italian study of 10,786 women, the “Hormones and Diet in the Etiology of Breast Cancer” (ORDET) study, has provided conclusive evidence in favor of 2-hydroxyestone.
Further, indole-3-carbinol (I3C) has resulted in inhibition of tumor growth during the time that the patients continue to take 13C or vegetables rich in this compound. We recommend use of our Natural Estrogen Protection Enhancer which contains Indole-3-carbinol and DIM.
Why Biest in a Cream Form: The cream form of Biest, as opposed to the pill form, has also been shown in recent studies to decrease inflammation, decrease conversion to estrone (a form of estrogen that can interfere with weight loss, cause bloating and reduce the benefits of estradiol) and interfere with HGH production.
