Anti-Depressants Aren’t The Answer, But Hormone Replacement Therapy Is

Video Transcription:

Hello, my name’s NBH. I’m the director of education and research at NBH Lifetime Health. Are you depressed? Or as someone told you you’re depressed? Maybe, your provider said, “Well, I think you’re depressed and what you really need is an antidepressant.” You’re not really sure that you are but it sounds good to you and if it makes you feel better, well, that’s okay. The problem with antidepressants is a number of things.

First, you really just may have a low neural transmitter or you may have a low hormone. Typically, it could be low testosterone, could be low progesterone in the ladies. These things can cause you to feel depressed. A low thyroid can cause you to feel depressed; low DHEA can cause you to feel depressed. A lot of these things are not really clinical depression. What they’re really are is a lack of neural transmitters or a lack or low levels of hormones.

Now, why is this important? Antidepressants typically cause you to become addicted to them, basically. Now, the reason I say that? Addicted is probably not a good word but it’s really hard to get off antidepressants once you’re on them. One of the things that some of them do is to deplete your serotonin, this is a neural transmitter in your brain. Now, when you deplete serotonin, the body tends to also create sugar and carb cravings.

So, sometimes on antidepressants, you can gain weight because now you won’t eat sugar and carbs all the time. Antidepressants can also lower your sex drive. Serotonin is your happy neural transmitter. So how do we get people off antidepressants? We, of course, tell them to work with their provider, whoever put them on the antidepressant. *But what we have basically found is that if you take five hydroxychloroquine for about 30 days and support your serotonin, then you can wean yourself off of your antidepressants within another month or two.

Very important to support your serotonin. The reason why most people cannot get off of their antidepressants if they tried a “cold-turkey” hem is because again your serotonin is already depleted and is more depleted than it was when you first started the antidepressant. So, if you’re not happy with taking an antidepressant and you’d like to get off of it, come see our provider and he will show you a way to get rid of all of your antidepressants, to feel good and to regain control of your life.
