I’d like to talk a little bit about what is called estrogen dominance. In our weight loss clinic and our hormone clinic, that is the most common thing that we see with our lady clients. Now, what does that mean? Typically it means you have plenty of estrogen but you have a low level of progesterone.
Now, how do you know that? Here are some symptoms of estrogen dominance; one is weight gain. You struggle with weight. You try to eat right. You try to exercise but you still struggle with weight. So that’s one sign. Another sign is a common symptom called polycystic ovarian syndrome, that’s a combination of low progesterone and a combination of insulin resistance.
Now these ladies really struggle with weight. They may also struggle with their periods because when you have low progesterone, you may have heavy bleeding, cramping, headaches, even migraine headaches. You’re going to also have fibromyalgia which is constant aches and pains. All these symptoms are related to being estrogen dominant or low progesterone.
The polycystic ovarian syndrome, you may be athletic, you may be strong; at least in your early years. Sometimes you may have excess hair growth. It may go the other extreme because when you lack progesterone, you may have no periods. Some of the other common symptoms of low progesterone are: infertility, miscarriages, postpartum depression, PMS, that’s irritability and moodiness, sleep issues, lack of energies.
All of these are related to being estrogen dominant or having low progesterone.
