Should you eat coconut oil? How does MCT (Medium Chain Triglycerides) Oil Burn Fat?
Coconut water contains electrolytes which help regulate normal heart function and are high in naturally occurring minerals. They are also rich in digestive enzymes. Coconut water is rich in Potassium, Magnesium and Manganese and is hydrating to our bodies.
Saturated fat? The saturated fat in coconut differs from the saturated fats in animal sources and dairy products. The difference is located in the fat molecule. All fats and oils are composed of molecules called fatty acids. You have saturated fats, monounsaturated fats, and polyunsaturated fats. But you also have short-chain fatty acids (SCFA), medium-chain fatty acids (MCFA), and long-chain fatty acids (LCFA). Coconut oil is composed predominately of medium-chain fatty acids (MCFA), also known as medium-chain triglycerides (MCT).
Size is important. Why? Because our bodies respond to and metabolize each fatty acid differently depending on its size. MCFA do not have a negative effect on cholesterol, help to protect against heart disease, and help to lower the risk of both atherosclerosis and heart disease. It is primarily due to the MCFA in coconut oil that makes it beneficial.
They metabolize them differently by way of going straight to the liver from the digestive tract, where they are either used for energy right away or turned into ketone bodies. We advise unrefined or pure “virgin” coconut oil. Refined coconut oil may use chemical solvents to extract the oil. Both are organic but use the pure Virgin type.
Good for cooking. Coconut oil’s fatty acid profile gives it a higher smoke point than many polyunsaturated or monounsaturated oils. If you have to use a higher cooking heat, coconut oil will not oxidize as for example olive oil.
