You probably will lose weight on a 500-calorie diet. The problem of course, is how are you going to maintain it? Most people can’t eat a 500-calorie diet more than a couple days. The other problem with a low-calorie diet is you tend to lose a lot of muscle and your basic metabolic rate slows down. So as soon as you start eating again, you’re going to rebound again with a vengeance.
