Perimenopausal is that time leading up to menopause. It typically is defined as around age 35 to 54. What it means for the ladies is you’re still having periods but some of your hormones have declined. Most likely the hormone progesterone has declined dramatically. Therefore, your periods may become irregular. You may have sleep issues. You may find that you don’t wake up refreshed anymore. Sex drive may decline.
During these years, your progesterone has taken a very large dip. Estrogen pretty much continues all the way to menopause. Ladies can become what they call “estrogen dominant” during these years which do lead to things such as weight gain.
